“The Strait of Gibraltar nominated by WOWSA”

AN INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION IN OPEN WATER SWIMMING

Swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar has been chosen to appear within the 100 best events in the world of open water swimming.

This event has been organized by the Asociación Cruce a Nado en el Estrecho de Gibraltar (ACNEG) for 23 years now

(Enter to know the history of ACNEG).

Nominees are evaluated annually by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Board of Directors.

Evaluation criteria:

  • Great historical importance. Safety and success history.
  • Unique event or with a special location.
  • Popular with the open water community.
  • Significant challenge in open water swimming.
  • That the entity in charge has a high organization; whose priority is the safety of swimmers.
  • That the crossings have a global geographical distribution (worldwide).

This is a great recognition in this sport, which places the Strait of Gibraltar as one of the best valued destinations internationally in open water swimming.

A unique enclave in the world.

ACNEG AS THE ORGANIZING ENTITY OF THE SWIM CROSSES IN THE STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR.

ACNEG was founded in 1999, and after 23 years it continues to help all swimmers to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Strait of Gibraltar is part of international challenges such as the Oceans Sevens (in which the Strait of Gibraltar is included as one of the most important crossings of the seven continents).
